imageFarm equipment auctions have been gaining popularity over the last decade for both buying and selling. Today we will introduce you to Insight Auctioneers, located in Sebring, Florida. With over 15 years in business, this father-son team has a proven formula to get the highest dollar for your equipment at their auctions.

imageFarmers Hot Line: Let’s say I’m a bidder that is not familiar with your company, tell me about yourself.

Shawn Martz, Vice President of Insight Auctioneers: We’re a family owned and operated auction company that has been in business for over 15 years in sebring, Florida. We have three generations of family working at the business. Insight specializes in liquidating and selling farm equipment. For all of our sales we have live in-person bidding as well as online bidding through Proxibid.

Online auctions vs. In-person bidding—thoughts?

Although most people prefer to inspect the items themselves prior to bidding, I feel that online bidding is the future of the auction business. Because Insight has both in-person and online bidding we have increased our consignors bottom line by 25 percent.

What were your “Top 5” popular pieces of equipment last quarter?

  • John Deere 7230 Tractor

  • Haybuster 2650

  • Kuhn Knight 2054 manure spreader

  • 1956 Jeep Willis

  • A series of Genie GS-60 Diesel Manlift

Do you see any trends in the type of equipment be auctioned/bought?

I believe people are looking to purchase good quality used equipment for under $30,000.

imageWhat is the highest priced item auctioned in the last quarter?

We had a John Deere 7130 with loader that brought in $82,000.

What is the highest count of one type of equipment in your auctions recently?

  • 15+ Genie Manlifts

  • 75+ farm tractors

If you could give someone attending an auction one tip what would it be?

I would recommend coming to view an auction before bidding to learn how it operates.

What do you see as the “up & coming” type of equipment?

imageGood quality farm and construction Equipment continues to draw in buyers.

How big of a roll does time-of-year play on sales?

In Florida, summer tends to be the slowest for us. The winter is busier due to the influx of northern visitors and part-time residents.

Any big upcoming auctions?

Instead of having a small auction every month, we have six big auctions per year. The next two auctions for 2014 are September 13th and November 15th.
