Schlagel Manufacturing
While plowing a field of corn stalks, Ron Schlagel, of Torrington, Wyoming, thought to himself, "Why am I doing this?" He started to remember all the problems he was causing himself. Plowing was just the beginning of a series of tillage steps needed to prepare the soil for planting. Even when the crop was in the ground he left himself wide open to wind and water erosion. He knew there had to be a better way. Schlagel began to experiment with minimum tillage. He tried several different methods without success. Designing a new machine was the only way to accomplish his goal to make a perfect seed bed in fewer passes, and to incorporate chemicals. A single machine that would work any type of soil.
