The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that 10 additional meat and poultry companies have adopted the agency's voluntary Product of USA label, expanding an initiative designed to help consumers identify products sourced and processed entirely in the United States.

According to USDA, the label is intended to give consumers confidence that meat, poultry and egg products bearing the claim come from animals that were born, raised, harvested and processed in the United States.

The announcement follows a nationwide awareness campaign launched earlier this year to encourage processors to adopt the label.

“President Trump has made it clear that when American families buy American products, they should know exactly what they’re getting,” said Secretary Brooke Rollins. “The Product of USA label gives consumers confidence that the meat, poultry and egg products they purchase come from animals born, raised, harvested and processed right here in the United States. Every new company that adopts this label represents another win for America’s ranchers, processors and rural communities. USDA will continue working every day to strengthen domestic food production and ensure American agriculture remains the strongest in the world.”

New companies joining the initiative

The latest companies to adopt the Product of USA label are:

  • Harris Ranch, California
  • One World Beef, California
  • Upper Iowa Beef, Iowa
  • American Foods Group (AFG), multiple locations
  • Agri Beef, Idaho
  • FPL Food, Georgia
  • Hadrick Farms, South Dakota
  • Fort Worth Meats, Texas
  • Wholestone Farms, Nebraska
  • Harrison's Poultry, Illinois

Company leaders said the program helps improve transparency and recognizes products sourced and processed in the United States.

“Origin should never be a mystery. Consumers deserve labels they can trust, U.S. producers deserve recognition for what they produce and every meat product should be represented honestly for what it is. Working from pasture to package gives us a unique appreciation for the responsibility behind every label. Honest representation honors the work of producers and gives consumers the confidence to know exactly what they're buying,” said Juan Ramos, founder and CEO, Fort Worth Meats.

"We're a four-generation family business and since 1893 supporting this community has been at the heart of how we operate. As one of the smaller, family-owned names in the program, we're proud to commit to the Product of USA label. It says plainly what's always been true for us: our poultry is sourced and prepared right here in America, by a business that invests in the people and place it comes from,” said Kyle Zimmerman, co-president and co-owner, Harrisons Poultry.

“Now more than ever, consumers deserve to know where their food comes from and to have confidence in the integrity of the products they purchase. The USDA Product of USA program creates a meaningful connection between American ranchers and the families they feed by recognizing producers who are committed to raising and processing livestock entirely within the United States. We are grateful for USDA’s leadership in strengthening transparency, supporting American agriculture and helping preserve the future of independent ranching for generations to come,” said Eric Brandt, president, One World Beef.

What farmers and ranchers need to know

USDA said the continued expansion of the Product of USA label aligns with broader efforts to support independent ranchers, family farmers and small- and mid-sized meat processors.

Last month, the department announced the Strengthening Processing for U.S. Ranchers (SPUR) Program, which provides up to $500 million to help eligible small- and mid-sized beef processors preserve and expand domestic processing capacity.

According to USDA, several companies participating in the Product of USA initiative are also expected to benefit from the SPUR program, potentially increasing processing capacity and creating additional marketing opportunities for U.S. ranchers.

USDA said interest in the Product of USA label continues to grow and expects additional processors to adopt the designation in the coming months.
