Friday, November 27, 2015 was a day of celebration and thanks for employees of MFS/York/Stormor in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Following closely on the heels of the official Thanksgiving holiday, it was on that day that the company -- one of the worlds’ leading manufacturers of grain storage and handling equipment -- achieved a total of one million work hours without a lost time accident. That means from November 12, 2012 through November 27, 2015, a grand total of one million hours were worked at the company’s manufacturing facilities… resulting in a grand total of zero accidents requiring an employee to miss work as a result.
“This is a tremendous achievement no matter how you look at it,” said MFS/York/Stormor President Dan Faltin. “It’s an accomplishment that every employee can take pride in, and further reinforces the emphasis that we and Global Industries places on safety awareness, training and making safety part of every employee’s personal culture.”
While the company places a high priority on keeping employees safe, it’s the employees themselves that have taken safety to heart, according to Safety Coordinator Jamie Lemburg.
“There’s no secret to it,” Lemburg explained. “It’s a day-by-day goal, and is all part of having a team mentality and making sure everyone on the team knows what to do and what’s expected of them. We constantly recognize positive safety behavior, no matter how big or small,” he added, “and continually reinforce safety at daily tool box training as well as monthly classroom training that all production employees attend.”
As amazing as this one-million hour achievement is, MFS/York/Stormor is not the first Global Industries’ division to reach this impressive goal. Hutchinson-Mayrath, another Global company, achieved this same mark in November, 2013.
