Caterpillar Inc. has announced the launch of a workforce development initiative in Texas as part of its five-year, $100 million Building the Future Workforce Initiative.

The company said it will allocate up to $5 million initially to help prepare current and future workers for advanced manufacturing and industry technician careers across the state.

According to Caterpillar, the investment will focus on reducing financial barriers to workforce training, developing a framework for future-ready skills and strengthening pathways that connect students with careers in advanced manufacturing.

"Caterpillar believes building a strong workforce starts with investing in people and helping them develop the skills needed to be successful," said Christy Pambianchi, Caterpillar's chief human resources officer. "Texas is a manufacturing powerhouse and a vital hub for innovation. Through this pledge, we're capitalizing on those strengths and preparing Texans for the jobs of today and the advanced technology and manufacturing careers of tomorrow."

Caterpillar said Texas was selected because of the company's long-standing presence in the state. The company employs 6,630 people in Texas, including at its Irving headquarters and 17 facilities statewide. The announcement was made at Caterpillar's engine manufacturing facility in Seguin.

The initiative will be carried out in collaboration with Texas State Technical College, the Manufacturing Institute and local organizations, including the Seguin Economic Development Corporation.

Texas is the second state to be included in Caterpillar's Building the Future Workforce Initiative, which aims to strengthen workforce development for manufacturing and skilled technical careers.
