Legacy Agripartners is narrowing its operations to focus exclusively on forage crops, the company announced after divesting DF Seeds on August 1. The move positions the company to concentrate on livestock feed through alfalfa and triticale.

“More than simply selling seed, Legacy Agripartners is helping farmers build healthier soil, more productive herds and more resilient systems,” said Colin Steen, CEO of Legacy Agripartners. “By concentrating our focus on forage crops, we are able to invest in these systems so we can make the biggest impact to livestock producers.”

Legacy Agripartners has a 25-year history in alfalfa breeding and expanded its resources with the 2022 acquisition of TriCal Superior Forage. Its alfalfa program is aimed at improving persistence, digestibility, yield and adaptation for U.S. and international markets, while also exploring benefits related to carbon sequestration.

Triticale, which has grown in adoption across the United States, is used in double-crop and winter forage systems for dairy and beef operations. TriCal Superior Forage continues to focus on genetics that improve yield, palatability and adaptability.

“Our renewed strategy puts the cow at the center,” Steen said. “Our forage breeding teams are developing genetics that support herd health while enhancing soil function and long-term productivity.”

Legacy Agripartners is headquartered in Waupaca, Wisconsin, and operates research and production facilities across North America. The company distributes premium alfalfa and triticale seed under its Legacy Seeds and TriCal Superior Forage brands.
